Week 3

3 Nov 2014

Hello Everyone. Its a Monday again. Two weeks had just past like that I am feeling all ready for work everyday. I have been learning new things everyday. We started the day by tearing down a set of remote camera from the mount. After tearing it down we then check if the mount we build on Saturday works not, apparently we didnt have to use what we build on Saturday to mount the camera instead we can just hook up direct to the camera itself.

So we went to work shop to trim the screws. Phi guide us on how to operate the machine to trim the screws.

So in the end this is how we mount it , directly to the camera without the plywood layer.

After lunch we successfully mount the camera up onto the rig and it works with the remote control but it doesn't sync with the remote control console. So after troubleshooting we manage to get it sync, we realize that we have to invert the network cable.  We then went to the patchbay area and reconfigure the cables. The old cable got 4 outputs wheres the new one have only 1 outputs (SDI)

Here is the success of the first camera

After successfully secure the first remote camera up. The whole crew then went to mount the remaining 2 cameras.

That all for the day. Tomorrow we will be renaming those camera on the console, syncing their IP to the console and view it via the Tricaster. Hopefully the full system will be done and I can use it for Sunday Church Service.

Hello Everyone, we started off the morning by heading to the patch bay to recable the camera cables.
Then after that me and phi proceeded to trim the power cables for the camera and fix it to the power lines using the wire twist.

Here is phi working on those cables.

The cables & wiring behind the patching bay.

After finishing reconfigure the cables, me and nicholas then went to tidy up the patch bay area. We were tasked to remove the old system from the racks.

Here is what is in the racks, before we clear it.

After lunch, harry then set each remote camera to a different button on the camera console. We manage to hook it up and everything run smoothly.

Here is the new controls, it look abit different from the previous console for the old set up as this set up only have a joystick but the good thing is this console have a auto focus function so it will save us alot of trouble in focusing when we are covering a wide shot using the remote camera. This coming Sunday we going use the new system, cant wait to work on the remote camera.

After setting up the whole console, Phi & Harry then teaches me abit on vision mixing, what are the hotkeys for Lowerthirds and picture in picture. Despite this being a old system ( we are in the midst of upgrading) we felt is good to learned

Below is Ed playing with the remove camera & Nicholas operating on the sound mixer.

After finishing up those stuff in the studio and the sanctuary, I then went to pull cables from the box to the false ceiling . We then learnt how to use a fish hook to fish the cable from the pipe itself. I was at up on the scaffolding with Kent to alight the cables and make sure it doesn't get entangled and the Nicholas for the rest of the cables. Just left a few feet and we are good to go to reach the control room.

That all for today hopefully the whole full system will be ready for ChristmasSing cant wait to work on it again tomorrow.

5 Nov 2014

Hello everyone . I started the day by updating the Adobe Software and installing the new Operating Software in the computers at the Sound Recording Studio. After letting the installation run. I then went to practice live cutting on the vision mixer. Practice it together with Ed & Nicholas, Ed was on the vision mixer & Nicholas is on the sound mixer.

After lunch, I then set up the scaffolding. Nicholas and Ed went up to lay the cables while I was at the bottom supporting the work flow, having been up there before enable me to know what tools they need so it was easy for me to support.

So in order for us to fit the cables through the roof, Phi & Harry have drill 0.4 meter of the floor downwards. In order for us to communicate we use a wakie talkie today. After drilling the hole we use a fish hook to hook the cables up.

We then lay the various cables, coaxial, network & fiber and arrange it neatly on the false ceiling. Here is the end results. Our neatly arrange cable.

After finishing laying the cable. I then went to the trailer to fix the cat 6 cable for the network with Alex. It was a success and it tally with the length of cable we pull, 100 feet.

After tidying up the cables, we then went to the trailer and sync another remote control for the remote cameras. After finishing syncing it. We call it a day.

6 Nov 2014

Good Morning everyone. For the whole of today we work on the trailer.
For the morning I was fixing BNC holder into the slots. I had to remove the screws and add in slots for the BNC. It took me quite awhile because the screws is really small and I have to make sure the slots is align.

Before Slots was added

After slots was added.

I added a total of 8 slots on the panel.

After added those slots, I then add a additional power strips to the racks .

After lunch, me and Nicholas lay a total of 8 cables, 4 audio cables & 4 coaxial cables. We then attached the BNC connector onto it.

After finishing laying the cables, we then learn how to connect the Cat6 cable. It is different from the one we did yesterday. Today connector was easier to fit.

While fixing up the network cable, I got into a mini accident. I got cut by one of the edges of the vent, so in order to prevent future accident we tap up the edges with the foam.

After finishing fitting those connector, we then tidy up the trailer and the place.

Here is a picture of Nicholas vacuuming the area.

Look at the amount of dust and rubbish from the vacuum cleaner.

After clearing up the place we called it a day. We will be working more on the trailer tomorrow.

7 Nov 2014

Good morning everyone. Its foggy today. For the whole day we spent our time building sets in the workshop.

Design layout for the set.

We started off by cutting the cloth into the require length. The cloth will then be mounted onto the racks for the artist to paint their design onto.

After finishing trimming the cloth we then build the props benches. The workmanship of the garden benches was rather bad. The screws worn off pretty quick, the bench wooden planks wasn't cut to the rights size, the alignment for the screws was all off. One of the bench we unpackage has a dent even before we do anything.

The contents in the boxes

Unwrapping starts.

Drilling the screws in making sure everything was align.

Apparently the workmanship of the bench was so bad that one part of the bench actually broke. Phi say the material was cheap, Iron Cast hence that why it broke so easily. Due to the broken parts we only completed two benches out of the benches.

Dented bench from the delivery.

This is the end of the week, it will be a packed week next week. Lots of thing happening. We have a greenscreen shot to key out and 3 greenscreen shoots cant wait for it.
