Week 2
26 Oct 2014
Hello everyone ! Lets begin with Sunday. We were tasked to film and cover the English Worship Church Service. As it is a multiple camera production , each of us was assigned to a camera. I was Camera 4 for the day. I was covering mainly close up of the audience and occasionally safety wide shot of the Pastor speaking to the audience.
This is a still from the shoot. I crop them from SD into 16x9.
Close up Rev. Lau
Here is Nicholas face all cramped up in a behind the scene.
We then hide the cables we lay underneath carpets and duct it up to make the environment a safety one for the kids.
After setting up the lights, we went to the Sanctuary to do some simple live audio mixing for the Pre Carnival Video.

The Director Cues here for live cutting is pretty different compare to the Cues in Singapore. For example, in Singapore I am use to having the director saying Stand By Cam 4 , Cut to Cam 4 over here the Director Cues is Cam 4, Take 4 . It took me awhile before I got the flow and feel. It really feel good to be operating a Camera its been awhile since I touched them.

Hello everyone ! As you can see from the photo that me messing around in the Studio.
For the morning of today, the whole crew were busy setting up and doing prelighting for a green screen shoot for HarvestFest 2014. We prelighted the whole scene and roll some test footage. After rolling some B roll we did some test compositing to make sure there wasn't much of a green spill from the wall on to the cast. We also did that to make sure that we were able to get a clean key out of the green screen.
Spot the redhead, that me
Here is a reflection shot off the studio glass panels.
Nicholas was the stand in for the day
We then did our whole test composite in Adobe After Effects, here is a test end product after I did the keying. It look fine to me, hopefully we will be able to get a good key from the actual footage on the actual day.
After finalizing the remaining stuff for the shoot, Harry then proceeded to teach us more about lighting ,Studio lights in particular and its uses.
A studio light might look simple from the exterior but it actually not, it have many different layer within the light itself.
Here is Harry tearing apart a Ellipsoidal Light.

Hey people ! For the morning, the whole crew went to Scottish Rite Masonic Center's Auditorium to did a Location Scout for the upcoming Christmas Show 2014.
First, we took various measurements of the car park and garage to gauge if our trailer will be able to fit within the lot. After setting on the "location" for our trailer. We then discussed how are we going to lay the cables from the control room all the way up to the stage.
One of the producer, Winston then explains to us what we will be doing for the following week. Basically we will be rigging up two screen on the left & right side of the stage . In order to rig those up we have to climb like a series of ladders and secure a wrench onto the mount before mounting the those projector up with a pulley system. It might sound pretty simple but it is actually quite complex as it consisted of many steps.
So basically we were about 3 story high and that is a view from the opening of the gap.
After lunch , we went back to studio and did the green screen shoot for HarvestFest 2014. I was the Slate , Logger for the shoot. I was doing my logging on the back of the slate.
After the shoot I data wrangle the footage and test the composite in After Effects. As San Francisco Giants is playing in the World Series. I test composite Rev. Fong in the Giants background. The test composite look good, hopefully tomorrow post production will be smooth without any hiccups.
After the test composite, we tear down and it was a wrap for the day.

Hello everyone is back to the trailer today after a two day of not working on the trailer . Harry say in about 2-3 weeks we should be able to get the whole system running properly. I cant wait for it to be fully functional, It is always my dream to own one of those and build it from scratch , so I am really excited.
For the day, me and nicholas was fixing up the screens onto the brackets properly secure it to make sure it doesnt come off. At first we will were having troubles projecting our feed to one of our screen from the Tricaster. We manage to fixed the problem after updating the software. After securing those screen we fixed up the Audio Computer.
Harry then explains to us the dante network a combination of software, hardware, and networks protocols that deliver uncompressed, multi channel, low-latency digital audio over a standard Ethernet network.
After tieing the loose ends I fix up the telephone signal router .We have this router because when we close all trailer door all the telecom signal will be cut off. This router is suppose to boost our signal.

Hello everyone ! Started off the morning by learning how to build a scaffold from Harry.
After learning the basic from him, we set it up. I went up the scaffold and did some drilling onto the false ceiling. I am still trying to get use to using a power drill as the whole time I tends release the drill out to early before the wood eat the screws. I was struggling up there with it. But nevertheless I manage to get it done .
That me up in the scaffolding with Harry,
After drilling in the cables ties I went up to relay the cables with Ken
A top shot of Nicholas from my point of view on the scaffold
It took us quiet awhile but we get the job done. After finished working on the cables we then proceeded back to the trailer to tie up some loose ends within the trailer.
I got the Tricaster up to the the screen after struggling for the past day we manage to get it up working for all the displays.
Harry then briefly explain to us the uses and properties of various of Video-signal generator such as blackburst, wordclock, Tri level sync and Midi. So basically this signal is a type which outputs and predetermined video waveforms which is use in the synchronizations of the feed among the system
After that we call it a day.

Hello everyone is Halloween today and over at Cornerstone they are having Harvest Fest . We started off in the morning working on 2 live shows. I was operating Camera 4 covering a lot of close up something I really like. After finishing the 2 live shows, the recorded vision was screen at the front office of the church.
Film Still
After the shows, Alex then guided me on how to use the remote camera. I manage to get the hang of it pretty fast. Hopefully I will be operating it on one of the live show pretty soon. Is full manual control so i get to control the iris too in the set up.
After dinner, I spent a fair bit of time setting up lighting for the photobooth for HarvestFest 2014. We tested it with various settings before we finally get it.
Here is Nicholas face all cramped up in a behind the scene.
We did some test shots and the results look decent
We then hide the cables we lay underneath carpets and duct it up to make the environment a safety one for the kids.
After setting up the lights, we went to the Sanctuary to do some simple live audio mixing for the Pre Carnival Video.
So the HarvestFest 2014 message video we shoot and edited was screen as part of the program.
After mixing for awhile, I then went to the carnival to roll some B Rolls. I manage to hook it with the slider and did some sliding shots.
Here are some of the Film still from my camera

For the morning despite being a Saturday, the three of us decided to help Phi. We torn down the remote camera and check if the mounting can work with the new camera.
From this picture you can see how dusty is the camera and this show how long have it been mounted on at the spot. Phi say they were about 10 years .
So the new camera doesn't work with the old mount so Phi decided to create platform for it. We cut some plywood into the dimensions and drills holes in. After building the platform we decided call it a day. We mounted the camera back up because tomorrow is Sunday and we don't want to risk losing a camera angle.

As a form of training, every Sunday we will be doing a live production for church service in various roles. This week I am glad to be the remote camera operator, finally can put what I learn onto a production. Apparently due to wear and tear the console have issues. This console is about 10 years old. I have to restart twice during the production as the whole console hang, 1 of the camera I control also have a zooming issues. Despite facing issues with it, I glad to be given a chance in this role. I really enjoy it and hopefully we will get the new remote cameras up and running soon with the new console.
That pretty sum up this week . Looking forward to next week.
