Week 01

Day 01 (20/10/2014)
Today is the first day of Internship, We started out with a tour of the facilities used by 1Light Media. We visited the studio, the storage room which stores most of the equipment and tools, the control room which contained the video switcher, audio mixer and all the other equipment necessary for control of a production. In the control room, there is the machine room which is like a hub where most if not all devices are connected to through cables. We also visited the production trailer which is still under construction.

After the tour, we went out to visit a rental house and lots of huge equipment that we don't get to see in Singapore. Most impressive was the demonstration of a sophisticated stage light that had many features.

Day 02 (21/10/2014)
Today we started work on the production trailer. The trailer isn't complete yet and there were still components not in place. Our task was to set up the intercom system. My job required soldering cables to XLR connectors. I have worked with XLR cables many times in the past, however, I had never seen the insides of the connectors before. I learnt how to solder before in the past, but that was a long time ago and I was never good at it. It was quite a challenge at first but I managed to solder a couple of XLR cables which was a good experience and taught me something that I didn't know I would ever do.

Day 03 (22/10/2014)
We continued working on the Intercom system today. We had to create a rather complicated cable consisting of 2, 3 pin XLR connectors on one end. And a single 6 pin XLR on the other. It was extremely difficult as the connections were quite complicated and we kept making mistakes. But we managed to get the job done and did a test of the intercom system.

Day 04 (23/10/2014)
Once again, we continued with the intercom system today. We also tested the intercom system with the cameras to see if they work. At night, we went to Adobe Systems to attend an event called SF Cutters. There were talks done by several people, some of them selling products and others showing the workflows for their projects. Most interesting was the talk by Josh Feldman who showed us how he shot and did the post-production for his indie feature film "SENN".

Day 05 (24/10/2014)
Today we're supposed to have a shoot, but it was postponed due to the testing of the fire alarm so we continued working on the trailer. I soldered 6 XLR cables for the intercom system and learnt how to crimp BNC and Ethernet connectors.

Day 07 (26/10/2014)
Today we had a multicam shoot for Sunday church service. I was the camera operator for one of the cameras. The shoot was quite simple and non-stressful and we had no problems with it.
