Week 04

Day 16 (10th November 2014)

Week 4 of internship. This week's a busy one. We had so many things to prepare for thanksgiving. To start off the first day of the week, I had to edit the audio for a thanksgiving video. As the audio was not balanced, I had to do it individually with the help of several effects in Adobe Premiere Pro. I was also taught how to use the bars and tones in Adobe Premiere Pro to assist me in calibrating the audio. After which, we went to set up the greenscreen for an upcoming greenscreen shoot. It was already late, and everyone had already got off work. I stayed on in the studio to create the mandarin subtitles for the thanksgiving video. It really requires lots of patience to translate everything spoken in the video, into mandarin. Thankfully, this was not my first time in translating and creating subtitles for videos.

Day 17 (11th November 2014)

Today was a holiday, and we did not have to report for work. Mr Harry brought us out for a movie with his family members. As there were some problems that happened, we were unable to go for a gun range. We headed back to the studio, and I showed Mr Harry the edit for the audio. There were much to be refined and we were given a short lesson on editing audio for videos, and some effects which can be used in Adobe Premiere Pro for editing audios.

Day 18 (12th November 2014)

For today's task, I was supposed to work on the placement of the subtitles which includes the various attributes like size, shadow, etc., after refining the audio edit. Due to some events which happened, I did not place the subtitles into the video. Moving on, we went to help Mr Phil with the props making, taking measurements, creating cloth hinges and stapling the cloth into the woods. That's all for today.

Day 19 (13th November 2014)

Today, we did a greenscreen shoot for the thanksgiving 2014 message. After which, Ed and I went to edit the footage, as it was in mandarin. Moving on, I went back to do some final adjustments to the audio of the thanksgiving video. I learnt to use a new software, Soundtrack Pro, which was pretty complicated at first glance. After a while, I was more familiar with it, and together with Mr Harry, he taught me the usage of certain effects like, distortion, pitchshifter, reverb, to enhance a sound effect, which can be useful for sound design.

Day 20 (14th November 2014)

To start off this rather busy day, I refined the mandarin subtitles for the thanksgiving video. After which, we went to a cafe to set up some stuffs, laying cables, and we were also taught by Mr Harry, what a direct box is. Then, we went to the other cafe to help set up and prepare for thanksgiving. We brought cameras tripod, truss, lights to the venue. Following which was a long and challenging process. We clamped the various lights onto the truss and raised it up to the ceiling, as well as fixed two projectors on the ceiling. The stage was also set up by other helpers. I also learnt to make a diffuser. It was a busy day, but I'm sure tomorrow will be an even busier day. Look forward to it.

Day 21 (15th November 2014)

Today's the Thanksgiving Celebration (Mandarin Session)! We did a final check on all the set up in the cafe, and went through a rehearsal of the night's programme. I was in charge of doing the vision mixing together with Mr Harry. It was my first time doing vision mixing, and to me, it was pretty fun. The only problem was, it was pretty difficult for me to concentrate, as the background was slightly too loud. Overall, it was a fun and great learning opportunity for me, as a vision mixer for the first time. Apart from that, I was also tasked to handle some of the slides which were used throughout the event, such as song lyrics, and thanksgiving greeting. Today was really fun and awesome! I'm really looking forward to next week's English and Cantonese sessions for the Thanksgiving Celebration! Happy Thanksgiving 2014!
