Week 2
Day 1 (27/10/2014)
Today we started setting up for the next day's greenscreen shoot in the studio. We set up the lighting and the cameras. The lights we used were 1 ARRI 600w Fresnel for the key light, 2 ARRI LED panels for the fill and background light. and 1 ARRI 150w Fresnel for the back light. We used a C-Stand with a 2 x 4 to diffuse the 600w fresnel. We then did a test recording with cameras and tried to key out the green. But the camera that I set had the ND filter on and the footage was too dark. It looked normal on the camera screen, but the screen wasn't calibrated right. After switching the ND filter off ,calibrating the screen properly and using the waveform monitor to expose propely, the footage looked great and suitable for keying. Once the set up and testing was done, we had a lesson on the different type of lights, and we saw how an ellipsoidal reflector spotlight works.
Day 2 (28/10/2014)
We started our day earlier at 8.30am to scout the auditorium at the Scottish Rite Masonic Centre. In a few weeks’ time, we would be using the location for a Christmas event. We were given a quick rundown of the setting up of a projection screen. We had to climb to a precarious height above the stage to see how the screen was to be hung. After the location scout, we had lunch and returned to the studio to start the shoot that we set up for the previous day. The shoot went quite well, taking only an hour to complete.
Day 3 (29/10/2014)
Today we started off with the trailer. We moved and set up a monitor as well as a desktop tower. After lunch, my fellow interns continued working on the trailer while I went and helped Phillip to edit and composite the previous day’s footage. We managed to successfully key out the green and composited in a background that I created using fractal noise and particles, as well as adding in some text, a logo and a lower third.

Day 4 (30/10/2014)
Our job for today was to pull some cables from the trailer to below the machine room. We had to hang the cable in the false ceiling. In order to work from that height, we learnt to construct a scaffolding. In order for the scaffolding to fit in the space we needed to work, we had to move some furniture. Particularly problematic was a divider that broke apart when we moved it, which gave us an impromptu lesson on bad carpentry. As we hammered the parts of the divider back in place, other parts kept breaking away and it took a long time for us to fix the divider.

Day 5 (31/10/2014)

Today is HarvestFest, we started out by working on camera for 2 live productions. After lunch, we had a 2 hour break before we started setting up lights for the photo booth in the cafeteria. We then worked in the Sanctuary(Auditorium), doing the sound and projection of the video. Part of the video was the greenscreen shoot that we did a few days ago. For some reason, the colour of the video on the projector was off and we were unable to correct it on the spot.

Day 6 (01/11/2014)
We started out today by helping Phillip in the Sanctuary. We took down a remote camera and learnt to saw and drill wood for it in the workshop. After that, we put the remote camera back in place and took the rest of the day off.

Day 7 (02/11/2014)
Today, like every other Sunday for the rest of the internship, we started off in the morning with a live production for church service. This time, I was in the role of a video engineer controlling the camera control units (CCUs). It was quite an easy role as all I had to do was to control exposure and white balance.
