Week 7

Day 2 (2/12/2014)
Today we continued working on the cabling in the trailer. Two of the RCA connectors that I soldered the other day came off and I helped Harry to resolder them back onto the connector. It was quite difficult as the connector was small and not of high built quality. After that, I ran another 2 audio cables and soldered the RCA connectors to them. Altogether these 4 cables are the audio cables that bring audio from the distribution amplifier to the DVCAM recorder. After doing the cabling, I cabled tied the cables to make them look neat and then we installed 3 drawers in the racks.

Day 3 (3/12/2014)
Today we started out by pulling out some cables in the former control room and running a Cat 6 cable to the machine room. We had to terminate an RJ-45 connector at each end of the cable. But it was difficult as the wires of the cable kept overlapping and we ultimately failed to terminate the cable correctly and Harry had to show us the proper method of doing it. After that, I soldered 2 XLR connectors in the machine room for the cable that linked the intercom in the trailer to the base station in the lighting room. I then went down to the trailer to cut and stick some drawer liners for the drawers that we installed the previous day.

Day 4 (4/12/2014)
I continued working on the drawer liners in the morning which I was unable to complete due to the lack of double-sided tape. In the afternoon, we went out to home depot to buy some stuff that we needed to finish the trailer. After lunch, I continued to work on the liners with the newly bought double-sided tape and I used the scotch tape that we bought to tape up the labels that we could not use the heat shrink on.

Day 5 (5/12/2014)
We started out the day switching on the components in the trailer. One of the cameras that we switched on had no feed in the trailer due to a fault in the optic cable. While the others fixed it, Phil and I taught Ira how to use the equipment in the trailer, such as the Tricaster, the remote cameras and the CCUs. After lunch, we assisted Harry as he trained Ira, Kent and Alex in camera operations as well as how to operate the equipment in the trailer for the upcoming events in the next few days. We then cleaned up the trailer by removing the stuff that we do not need and vacuuming the floor. After dinner was the rehearsal for the Mandarin ChrismaSing event the next day. We watch the rehersal and practiced our roles for tomorrow.

Day 6 (6/12/2014)
Today is the Mandarin ChristmanSing event. Before the event started, we cut and pasted more drawer liners for the 3 additional drawers that will be added to the trailer. At night, we had the Mandarin ChristmaSing event in which I was the remote camera operator in the trailer

Day 7 (7/12/2014)
Today, like other Sundays, we started out with the Sunday church service. During the Cantonese session, I watched and learned as Kent did the sound mixing. In the afternoon, I'll be doing sound for the first time and I needed to learn how its done. For English service, I was the camera operator for one of the cameras. Unfortunately, I was somewhat shaky on the camera as my body was not in shape today due to not sleeping well last night. (I had a really intense dream about riding a bicycle at very high speeds while barefooted... if that makes sense.) After lunch, we did the preschool event. I was on the sound mixer for the first time, but it wasn't that difficult and the only problems I had were forgetting to put on the ambience sound at certain times.
